Add it up!

Last fall I started to get into paper cutting and have kept doing it for several different projects.
This is one of those projects.
In my illustration class we had to choose a myth from another culture and illustrate it. I chose the Maori creation myth.
I am not a Maori person, and do not intend to represent the Maori people, these images are made by a small, white, canadian girl. They are inspired by the carvings and motifs in Maori art but do not intend to copy them. I guess what I'm trying to say is I don't want to speak for something that isn't mine.
Anyways. Something that is mine are these papercuts...they are 11x17 inches and after a friend asked me to time...on average they take about 6 hours or more each. I really shouldn't have timed myself...

If you the viewer, would like some context to the freaky things that are going on in these images, check out this version of the story:

There are variations to the story, but it's pretty much the same.

Also, all apologies for the post hiatus.

ciao bella!
